You finish with
Three repeatable jobs set up as Claude Skills or saved prompts: the things you'll do every week.
Why it matters
A good result once is luck. A job written down as a skill gets you the same quality every time, and it's the first thing you'll be able to hand to someone else.
What you need
- A job you'll do every week and how you want it done
- One good example of the finished output, if you have it
The prompt
Copy it, fill in the [BRACKETS], and paste it into Claude.
Help me turn a job I'll do every week into a Claude Skill I can reuse.
The job: [E.G. REPLYING TO ENQUIRIES, WRITING A WEEKLY POST, SENDING QUOTES]
How I do it now, or how I'd like it done: [DESCRIBE THE STEPS]
A good example of the finished output: [PASTE ONE IF YOU HAVE IT]
What it must never do: [E.G. QUOTE A PRICE, PROMISE A DATE]
1. Ask me up to five questions about anything unclear.
2. Then write a complete SKILL.md file. Start with YAML frontmatter containing a name (lowercase, words joined with hyphens) and a description (what it does, and the phrases I'd use that should trigger it). Then the instructions: what to read first (my brain file), what inputs to ask me for, the steps, the output format and the rules.
3. Keep it under one page, and make every rule something that can be checked. If I said I'm not sure about something (a price, a timeframe, a policy), don't write it into the skill as fact: make the skill ask me for it, or mark it [CHECK].
4. Finally, give me three test requests to try it with, including one where it should ask me a question or refuse. Done when: You have three skills or saved prompts, each has passed its three test requests, and each is installed (Claude Code: .claude/skills/<name>/SKILL.md; Claude.ai: zip the folder and upload it under Settings > Capabilities > Skills, or paste it into a Project's instructions).
